World Softball Day officially dates back to 2005, chosen to commemorate the historic day in 1991 when the International Olympic Committee announced that women’s fastpitch would finally be added to the Olympic stage. It’s a day to celebrate how a game that started indoors in Chicago back in 1887 evolved into a global phenomenon played by over 30 million people across 130 countries.
But if you ask any player, the history isn’t just in the record books. It’s written in the dirt.
